We are able to offer a variety of big end bearings for Vincent machines to suit either the authentic requirements of the restorer or the more searching demands of the racer. In all cases, however, it has become noticeable that the original Vincent connecting rods have rather thin big end eyes. The reduced support around the big end bearing outer race in identified with many rods now showing signs of ovality. The fitting of an outer race to an oval eye will undoubtedly result in the bore of the outer race becoming oval. Such ovality in the bore of the outer race is not acceptable. Alpha Bearings now require the connecting rod(s) to be returned to the factory so that the con rod eye can be corrected and that the outer race can be machined after being fitted to the connecting rod. This ensures that there is no ovality, taper or an out of square component in the outer race and that the desired clearances are obtained.
